Shelby calling for Justice

Shelby Franklin Miller
March 14, 1953- September 21, 2009

Shelby’s body was found September 24, 2009 along the banks of Yellow Creek in Jefferson County, Ohio hidden under brush. He was allegedly shot and killed by his son Travis N. Miller. Travis then fled to Tennessee , in his fathers truck which he allegedly stole, to be with his mother but before arriving made huge purchases using Shelby’s debit card which he had allegedly stolen from his father. The truck was found hidden behind the mothers house in Tennessee.
Those who knew Shelby knew that he was a gentle soul who always looked out for the welfare of others. Shelby has given food and financial aid to those who were struggling, he would help elderly people with home repairs and lawn maintenance, He would read the bible to people, and some said he just always had time to listen to them when they just needed an ear. He firmly believed and practiced his Christian faith after rededicating his life back to God in 2002, and has attended the Church of the Nazarene in Wellsville where he served as choir director, Sunday school teacher, NYI leader, among many other things.
He loved his family deeply and was proud of all his children and grandchildren, as well as being close to his brothers and sister and many nieces and nephews.
Even with his many illnesses that he struggled with all of his life, he was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. Even after suffering strokes and becoming disabled he continued to remain busy lending his exceptional skills to different programs such as the Columbiana County Guardian ad litem program.
Shelby was loved and well respected by all those that knew him, and will be greatly missed. It is a shame that this senseless tragedy had to take place and that the world was robbed of the chance to benefit from all that Shelby still had to offer, but we know that our loss is Heaven’s gain.
The family is calling for justice to be done! Travis should not get away with this crime. No matter what they say in court or how the defense will try to slander Shelby’s good name, Travis made a conscience choice to come here. If he did not like his dad he could have left. No one has the right except God to take a life. We want justice! Travis must pay! Please pray for this grieving family and for justice to be done. Pray that law enforcement and the prosecution will take this seriously and do what needs to be done to bring Travis Miller to justice! According to Channel 9 news Travis bond was set high as they feel he could be a danger to others, then say he may get 15 to life. We don’t want deals, we desire justice. A man’s life was brutally taken from him by murder. Who would be safe with this kind of monster outside of prison walls? We don’t want him out and he needs to pay for this horrific crime. Justice without mercy!

  1. In the depths of your eyes was a vision of heaven.
Mercy poured forth, flowing like a mighty river,
sweeping over all those that were in your path and engulfing the needs of others like a great flood,
carrying thier burdens away in the sweeping waters

Then you bathed them with gentle waves of compassion; a refreshing spring whose source was your heart.
This river of love has flowed away from us and it is poured out into the Crystal Sea.
But this truth we can hold onto: That those whose lives you flowed into were privelaged to wade in those waters.
And were blessed in the sacred knowledge, that we were baptized in your kind friendship!

  3. In Our Hearts
We thought of you with love today.
    But that is nothing new.
    We thought about you yesterday.
    And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
    We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
    Your memory is our keepsake.
    With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart..

    Four Candles
The first candle represents our grief.
The pain of losing you is intense.
It reminds us of the depth of our love for you.
This second candle represents our courage.
    To confront our sorrow,
    To comfort each other,
    To change our lives.
This third candle we light in your memory.
    For the times we laughed,
    The times we cried,
The times we were angry with each other,
    The silly things you did,
The caring and joy you gave us.
This fourth candle we light for our love.
We light this candle that your light will always shine.
As we enter this holiday season and share this night of remembrance
    with our family and friends.
We cherish the special place in our hearts
that will always be reserved for you.
We thank you for the gift
your living brought to each of us.
    We love you.
    We remember you.

  4. The family and friends of Shelby Miller feels so much pain and grief. Shelby was murdered, therefore it was not his appointed time to die. Not only was Shelby cheated out of the rest of his life, his loved ones were cheated from all the time they had together with him. The grief is overwhelming and there is no closure. By the time his body was found several days after the murder, he was so badly decomposed that he had to be cremated. The family has had no closure. And we all know how corrupted our justice system has become. We don't want to see Travis get off or have a smaller sentence. The family cries out and demands justice for this evil crime. Travis needs to pay for what he has done to his father and to all who survived him. These are the victims too: the ones that live on in pain. He robbed the time we had left with Shelby. May justice come swiftly for this crime. True justice, not the watered down version that exists in our county today. Deals and plea bargains are not justice. My wish is that this young man, whose heart is full of wickedness, will find himself facing the death penalty. My desire is to have done to him all that he inflicted upon his father. May he get beaten in prison by the other inmates and know what it is to feel harsh beatings on his body. May he live in guilt and torment. Then after many years locked away in prison, may he die at the hands of the state for what he has taken from everyone else.

  5. Shelby was a kind, generous, honest, loving, caring man. He was my best friend. I miss him everyday. My husband picks up his phone to give Shelby a call, then reality sets in.It is so sad that we all have to deal with this on a daily basis. Travis has to pay for what hes done. He took the life of a human being. He took the life of the one person who gave him life. WHY???? I MISS MY FRIEND

  10. Thank you all for youe kind words and prayers. I will miss my father everyday for the rest of my life. My family, friends and I have a long hard road to travel till we have peace and justice. My father was my rock in my life, not only did he give me life and raise me but he was my protector in times of hardship due to others abuse or just life in general. Because of his example and love I am a better woman and human. As long as I have breath in me I will fight for my Dad's Justice. May one day dad you get the peace you deserve!!!

  11. Shelby Miller was like a brother to myself and my husband. He became a part of our family many years ago.He was one of the most loving, kind and gentle people I have ever known. He loved his children, all of them, deeply. He loved his family and friends. But the one thing that I will remember most about Shelby was his ability to forgive others who had wronged him. No matter how badly someone treated him. he would do whatever he could for them.He even reminded me at times of things I should not say, even about the people who mistreated him.He would wrap his forgiving arms them and hold them even closer. I can only pray that one day I would be as forgiving. I remember the last conversation I had with him just a few days before he was murdered. He seemed so happy. He was laughing and joking. Now what brought joy to my ears, brings tears to my eyes, for I will never be able to hear your laughter again Shelby, I will never be able to spend the holidays with you here with us, I will never be able to share the pranks we played on each other, that we both loved so much to do.But most of all I will never be able to forget that hellish night when we went looking for you and you were found, taken from us, so cruely. It has been a nightmare that is like a record playing over and over again in my mind and the only sound I hear is the screams of disbelief and terror for what had been bestowed upon you. My heart breaks. There are times I look at your picture or even mention your name and I cry, I cry for you, for your daughters, for the grandchild you will not watch grow, for your family, your friends. I cry knowing that someone did this to you, how could they, how could anyone hurt you. Im crying now. I will fight for your justice Shelby, we are all here fighting for you and we will not stop untill justice prevails. We love and miss you!!

  12. everyday when i wake up, there sits rascal, shelby's amazon parrot. he greets me with his giggle that he learned from his owner. when i come home from work once again theres rascal. giving me his heart filled HELLO?! when i enter the house. the phone rings n he bellows hello... i get frustrated with the internet n let out a few choice words...there rascal comin back with I DIDNT DO IT... tellin others in the house to SHUT UP... tellin the other birds we have SHUT UP... all this in dear shelby's voice. sometimes it so hard to hear. so hard to accept... but then after thinkin deeply bout it all, its MY REMINDER of shelby. my best friend gone but not forgotten. when rascal hears us talkin bout shelby, he gets sad n hangs his head...sounds like he sayin AAAAHHHHHH.... he misses his owner. we all do. we miss shelby so much. it is not fair for all this to happen. why should travis be able to be out in this world when he has caused so much to us all. his pets even morn his lost. when we first got custody of his three birds, rascal the one he has had for many years had trouble adjustin to his new life. i know we dont do things for rascal like shelby did, but we try. we have done our best to make him a part of our family. lookn at rascal rite now, hes in his cage with his head hung low. u can see sadness in him even tho hes just a bird. imagine life... so unreal... so tore apart..for nothin. no reason. no reality. travis has no remorse for what hes done to us all. ellen, please Lord give her strength to get through this. tiffany, touch her Lord. let these girls feel the love their father had for them. strength n hope n love to all those who have been blessed by dear shelby. reach out n touch someone just like shelby did..lets do what we can to carry on what he started

  13. i forgot one thing. monday night we met with some newly found friends. we spoke of shelby for quite some time that night. i had a dream that night. we were at shelby's house, talking, reaching out to you trying to find some peace with all this. the question was asked 'are you here' the answer was 'yes'. the next question was 'what keeps you here' the answer 'the gun'. question 'what gun' answer 'the gun travis used to shoot me, i will not rest until it is found'. to sum up the dream, shelby told us it will not be finished until the gun is found. that God was travis to pay for what he has done. that God will not let travis walk away from this. this is the first time i had a dream about shelby in awhile. i thot he had gone on, the he has found peace. but it is not so. we MUST FIND PEACE for shelby. as he would say, take your candle and go light your world. i pray for peace..

  14. You are right lak, we must find peace for this. Shelby was brutally slaughtered, Shelby was beaten and shot in the back of the head like a coward. For what? Because Shelby couldn't give him money! We must find justice for Shelby! This business needs to be settled and gone. Yes I believe they are doing things behind the scenes that we aren't supposed to be aware of. But this needs to come to an end. The laws need to change and thier needs to be justice for the victim and the family. The courts need to understand this and push to this end. We will find justice as I know I will not rest til there is justice. I will fight with all that I have to make sure that Shelby will get revenge in the court of law. We will find the justice.
